Foreign Office apologises over Pope visit paper.

An official document suggesting several things the Pope should do while he visits Britain has leaked. The document suggested the Pope should open an abortion clinic, bless a gay-marriage and launch a new brand of condoms. It also said the Pope should “sack dodgy bishops” and launch a helpline for abused children. The document was a brainstorm with many far-fetched ideas, which mostly seemed to mock the Pope's regime. It was not supposed to become public. When it did, the Foreign Office had to apologise. They realised it was offensive to the Pope and many other Catholic people all over the world.

Though this document is highly inappropriate to actually send to the Pope, I think it is a good thing the things it suggests are brought to attention. The child abuse is a very hot item at the moment and yet the Pope does not seem to have too much to say about it. The people who wrote this document knew the Pope would never agree with the things they asked for, that is probably the reason why it should never have become public. Still, it is a good thing that people once more can see the strict view of the Catholic church on things like homosexuality, abortion and contraceptives.

Nick Clegg, leader of the Liberal Democrats, surprisingly won the live TV debate. The Prime Minister and Conservative leader went into the debate friendly, but as time passed and the debate became more heated, they started attacking each other. Nick Clegg remained calm and did not choose sides. He blamed things that went wrong over the past 65 years on both his opponents. He made clear that he is a good alternative leader for the country, next to Gordon Brown and David Cameron.

The debate on tv was a good thing to happen to the leader of the Liberal Democrats. Because people saw him standing up to his opponents and people now see him in a different light. Because of the debate people look differently towards politics and things in the country will change, which may be a good thing.

Are Flight Cancellations Really Necessary?

In about twenty countries in Europe flights have been cancelled. Due to the ash coming from a volcano in Iceland the air would not be safe to fly. The ash, which consists of fragments of glass, rock and sand, would be damaging to the engines of aircrafts. Several test flights, carried out by different flying operators in Europe, show no damage or danger whatsoever. Airlines see no harm in flying and want to resume their flights. Authorities think this is too dangerous. Next Monday a videoconference will be held with transport ministers to come to a decision.

Though the cancellation on flights is highly unfortunate, safety of the passengers is most important. Test flights may have showed no damage to the aircrafts, these flights were probably short flights. The aircrafts were not in the air for a very long time, and also there are no test flights done in England. The only test flights are done in Germany, the Netherlands and France. It may be so that the test flights show no damage, other authorities show with other scientific tests that the air is still filthy with ash and this could be dangerous to aircrafts and therefore, for the people within the aircraft. Until scientific research shows the air to be ash-free, flights should remain cancelled.
